Effects of Application of Compost Made from Citrus Skin and Starch Sludge on Radish Growth

Abstract

|
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of environmentally sound compost on growth and yield of radish (Rhaphanus stativus L.) in Jeju, Korea. The treatments consisted of five plots; 2, 4, and 8 tonsㆍ㏊?¹ citrus skin and starch sludge with pig manure mixing compost (CSSP) treated plots, 4 tonsㆍ㏊?¹ fermented pig manure compost (FPMC) treated plot, and non-treated plot. The number of leaves was significantly increased by application of CSSP and FPMC. The shoot fresh weight per plant was higher in order of 4, 8 tonsㆍ㏊?¹ CSSP plot ＞ 2 tonsㆍ㏊?¹ CSSP plot ＞ 4 tonsㆍ㏊?¹ FPMC plot. Root length, diameter, and the root fresh weight per plant were linearly increased as the application rate of CSSP was increased from 2 to 8 tonsㆍ㏊?¹. The application of 4 to 8 tonsㆍ㏊?¹ of CSSP increased the root fresh yield (65.4?65.6 tons) as compared to the other treatment plots.
